Tyler's Roots in Retailing

We've not always been at the forefront of delivering computer automation to North America's premier retailers; we once were one. If you're a retailer, you'll know the expression, "we eat, sleep and drink" retailing. Since 1968, Tyler has been in the retail industry. We opened our own retail enterprise in little more than a 900 square foot location in the heartland of America, Des Moines, Iowa. By 1972 our little operation had grown to include five additional locations and a central warehouse/distribution center. To improve buys from manufacturers, we became a regional distributor for several major lines and commenced a franchise program which culminated in the operation of 49 additional outlets. Within a matter of months, we expanded our operations into the state of Florida opening yet another regional distributorship and adding 6 more corporate stores. With two regional distributorships, 12 corporate stores and 49 franchise locations we found ourselves nearly out of control! We couldn't gather information fast enough to make calculated, informed business decisions.

Tyler and Technology

Realizing our future greatly depended on timely and accurate information about the daily operations of our business, we turned to technology. However, in 1972, very little existed in the way of computer technology, especially for a retailer. After an exhausting search for application software that understood the complexity of operating a big-ticket retail operation, we gave up. Being the pioneering sorts that we are, we made a decision that we needed to take on the task of integrating technology with retailing. Since 1972, Tyler has been doing just that. Who better understands the needs of a retailer and the problems they encounter than a retailer? The Tyler difference, technology created by a retailer for retailers, not a bunch of computer jocks who think they understand the needs of a retailer. Innovative, intelligent solutions for real-world retailing. Over the years our system, the Tyler System, evolved, constantly being enhanced to address every single function and daily process a retailer encounters in running a successful retail operation. During our years of retailing we were honored on numerous occasions by our suppliers and the industry itself as "Retailer of the Year". In 1979 at a trade show, friends and peers urged us to make available to the industry the technology we had created to run our retail operation. Later that year, we sold our retail business and started Tyler Retail Systems.

Tyler Today

Since 1979, we've been headquartered in Clearwater, Florida. In 1994, we expanded operations and moved to our present location, a six acre office site located at 4625 East Bay Drive, Clearwater, Florida. Within this physical plant we house our executive offices, administration, programming, support and training center, research and development, component manufacturing, and shipping and receiving. Also located at this campus is the world headquarters for our exciting new technology, TylerNet, the first and only Worldwide On-Line Retail Network.
